Finding Quality Picture Books to Share in your Classroom

As teachers, we know that reading books aloud to our students is SO important.  But sometimes, it's hard to find quality read aloud books!  I've gathered a list of resources to help you find new and powerful books to share with your students.

Reading picture books aloud in our classroom is so important, but where do we find the best read aloud books for kids? Here's a list of resources to help you!

The Nerdy Book Club

The Nerdy Book Club is a blog dedicated to sharing the love of books in the classroom.  It is a compilation of four authors who are upper elementary and high school teachers.  Each year, they host the Nerdy Book Awards, where they reflect on the top books that were released that year.  Be sure to scroll through the past few years of Nerdy Book Awards to find some great high interest picture book and novel titles!

We Need Diverse Books

We Need Diverse Books has a wonderful collection of books that represent a wide range of cultures and lifestyles.  There are many resources to help you add books to your library that allow all children to see themselves in the pages of a book.   A wonderful resource for finding stories for kids.

Instagram

There are so many class read-aloud suggestions on Instagram!  Check out the following hashtags to find some of my favorite read out loud books:

Facebook

Head over to The Colorful Apple Facebook page to find what teachers are reading in their classrooms!  Every Monday, we share the books that we read with our students that day.  Then, on Tuesdays, I go live to share the best read aloud picture books that I think your class will love!

Goodreads

Do you have a Goodreads account?  I've always used it for keeping track of my personal books, but it's a great way to find picture book read alouds for your class as well!  Some of my favorite authors to follow are Jillian Heise, Donalyn Miller and Colby Sharp.

A Free Book List

This is the best part!  I curated a list of picture books for children that are wonderful for reading aloud in your classroom.  Each book addresses a variety of social and emotional topics that will help guide your students.
